If, however, you decide to make the child cat costume you will find it is a fun costume to make and can be very easy to do.

A kids cat costume basically consists of a black outfit, black shoes, ears, whiskers and of course a tail. There are a lot of variations of this as well.

To begin with you can purchase very inexpensively a black leotard, black tights and black shoes. If you have a little boy and they are adverse to wearing tights (some are) you could certainly pick up an inexpensive long sleeve t-shirt or turtle neck and black pair of pants. Second hand shops, such as thrift shops and Goodwill are a great place to do this for little out of pocket.

The tail may be the most difficult part of the childs cat costume, but can be done very well, fairly easily and inexpensively using a wire coat hanger small amount of black fabric and some stuffing.

Simply cut a long piece of fabric that is double the thickness you would like a tail to be, sew up one side and the one end of it. Then turn it inside out so the stitches are on the inside and place stretched out wire hanger in it. Cap the ends of the wire hanger with erasers and glue or rubber bands to keep them from being dangerous.

Now put the stuffing in and stitch the tail to the back of the leotard. If you are using pants for a boy then you can either stitch it to the pants with a few simple stitches that can be easily removed after Halloween.

Next are the ears. This is best accomplished with black felt which can be purchased for as little as 10 cents a piece. You will only need one piece.

Cut two ear shaped pieces leaving extra at the point of the ear that will go on the head. Using a headband, either a hard black plastic one or the stretch type you can buy very inexpensively and fabric glue or a sewing needle. Set them so they are upright on the headband and you have ears.

The nose can be painted on with black face paint and the whiskers can either be painted on or you can get creative and make or purchase a whisker mask.

There are many different ways you can get creative with child cat costumes it just depends on how original you want your kids costume to look.

Also keep in mind if you don’t have the time to create the perfect child cat costume you will have no problem finding what you are looking for online or at your local party shop.
